On January 18-20, members of the negotiated rulemaking panel on teacher preparation met for the first of three sessions in Washington, D.C. to develop regulations for the accountability provisions in Title II of the Higher Education Act (HEA) and to amend regulations for the TEACH Grants (Title IV, HEA). The U.S. Department of Education (the Department) convened the panel as the second step in its process to develop regulations.
After bipartisan talks to reauthorize ESEA ended in the U.S. House of Representatives, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) posted two comprehensive Republican reauthorization draft bills to the Committee website, the “Student Success Act” and the “Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act.” The committee also released summaries of bothbills.
