1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.	The Big Picture: Current Policy & Political Landscape Mike Rose, Senior Director of Federal Relations, AACTE It’s important to understand the political context as we advocate for additional funds and policy changes. Attendees will learn what’s happening in Washington and how to consider context when meeting with legislators.
2:10 p.m. – 3:10 p.m.	Legislative Priorities: Appropriations, the Higher Education Act, Reed/Adams Legislation, Reconciliation Mike Rose, Senior Director of Federal Relations, AACTE Dr. Jane West, AACTE Consultant This session outlines AACTE priorities for the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act and appropriations spending bills. Attendees will also learn about legislation AACTE is helping to draft and the implications of budget reconciliation.
3:10 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.	What is Advocacy and Why is it Important? Drs. Sonja Arnak and Lisa Bisogno, AACTE Advisory Committee on Government Relations and Advocacy Attendees will learn about the importance of using their voice to help support teacher candidates and education preparation programs.
3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.	Using the Legislative Priorities for an Effective Hill Meeting Drs. Jon Pedersen, Jennifer Wallace, and Lisa Bisogno, AACTE Advisory Committee on Government Relations and Advocacy Learn how to use AACTE’s legislative priorities when meeting with your congressional delegation.
4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.	State Team Time
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2021
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.	Opening Welcome and Hill Panel Mike Rose, AACTE and Dr. Jane West, AACTE Consultant This will be OFF the record. No social media, please! Congressional staff will provide perspectives on the current policy landscape and reflect on possibilities for education moving forward.
2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.	Education Deans Panel and Town Hall: Building Campus/Program Leadership for Advocacy Drs. Jon Pedersen and Reginald Williams, AACTE Advisory Committee on Government Relations and Advocacy Attendees will learn how Deans of Education have built and sustained advocacy efforts and developed strategies for working with elected officials.
3:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.	Checking Your Own Politics at the Door: How to Talk with Policy Makers of Either Party and Effectively Tell Your Story Dr. Larry Daniel (Chair); Drs. Sonja Arnak and James Wolfinger, AACTE Advisory Committee on Government Relations and Advocacy Attendees will learn how to conduct an effective meeting and highlight the importance of AACTE’s legislative priorities and why Members of Congress should support them.
4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.	State Team Time
5:30 p.m.	Day on the Hill Private Concert and Reception Join other 2021 AACTE Day on the Hill participants for a reception. Attendees will enjoy a private concert by Scott Kurt.
