AACTE’s advocacy mission is more important than ever. That’s why we are asking you to amplify our messages urging lawmakers to support policies that help ensure our nation’s students receive a high-quality education taught by a qualified and diverse teacher workforce.
Below is a list of Action Alerts on current legislation important to the profession as well as letters to engage in advocacy campaigns with elected officials on these issues. To participate, simply fill out the form(s) below and submit. A letter will then be sent to your representative and both senators.
More than half of all public elementary and secondary school students in the U.S. are students of color while only 20% of all public elementary and secondary school teachers identify as persons of color. Recently, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), Rep. Jesús “Chuy” Garcia (D-IL), and Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT) introduced legislation (S. 1780/H.R. 3393) that would increase the diversity of candidates in the teaching profession by making improvements to the TEACH grant program, which provides grants to undergraduate and graduate students who commit to teaching a high-need subject in a high-poverty elementary or secondary school for four years.
