Diversifying by Investing in Educators and Students to Improve Outcomes For Youth (DIVERSIFY) Act

More than half of all public elementary and secondary school students in the U.S. are students of color while only 20% of all public elementary and secondary school teachers identify as persons of color.  Recently, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), Rep. Jesús “Chuy” Garcia (D-IL), and Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT) introduced legislation (S. 1780/H.R. 3393) that would increase the diversity of candidates in the teaching profession by making improvements to the TEACH grant program, which provides grants to undergraduate and graduate students who commit to teaching a high-need subject in a high-poverty elementary or secondary school for four years.

Send a letter to your Members of Congress encouraging them to cosponsor the Diversifying by Investing in Educators and Students to Improve Outcomes For Youth (DIVERSIFY) Act.
