What is Ed Prep Matters?

Ed Prep Matters (EPM) is AACTE’s multimedia news platform dedicated to sharing news and updates with the educator preparation community. EPM features content from AACTE leaders, member institutions, researchers, state affiliates, and education partners

All submitted articles are reviewed and edited by the EPM editorial team prior to publication.

Submission Categories

EPM accepts submissions across five categories. Select the most appropriate category when submitting your article.

Member Stories

Member institutions of AACTE are highlighted or may submit articles on institution updates, new work, or good news to share with the community.

Research & Opinion

Short-form research articles up to 1,500 words. Empirical studies examining educator preparation programs, outcomes, and innovations are welcome. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods designs are accepted.

Note: Some submissions may be classified as op-eds. Research articles may be fielded by AACTE’s Research Committee.

State Affiliates

Updates from state association affiliates on efforts, conferences, policy developments, and more from across the country.

Education Partners

Updates and news from AACTE education partner organizations working to advance the educator preparation community.

PAC & TAG Updates

Updates highlighting the work, initiatives, and achievements of AACTE’s Professional Association Communities (PACs) and Topical Action Groups (TAGs).

Content Standards & Guidelines

EPM is a multimedia news platform. Content standards are designed for short-form, accessible journalism relevant to the educator preparation community. Please review all guidelines carefully before submitting.

Submission Specifications
Word Count 700–1,200 words for general submissions; up to 1,500 words for research articles.
Citations Inline hyperlinks for general articles; APA 7th Edition for research submissions.
Images Authors are expected to submit images for use within the article and as a thumbnail. Stock photography will be used if no images are provided.
Image Rights Submitter confirms ownership or rights to share all submitted images for publication on AACTE platforms.
Style Editing AACTE edits all articles for style according to AACTE style and APA guidelines prior to publication.
Review Timeline Editorial response within 5–7 business days of submission.

Ethical Disclosure Requirement

Submitters must disclose if the article has been published elsewhere, in whole or in part, prior to submission to Ed Prep Matters. Failure to disclose prior publication may result in the submission being declined.

 

Best Practices

Include Links & Citations Research and opinion articles should include links and citations to support and argue the points made in the article.

Connect to Educator Preparation Content should be relevant and meaningful to the educator preparation community — including members, candidates, and the broader field.

Stay Within Word Range General submissions should fall between 700 and 1,200 words. Research articles may run up to 1,500 words.

Submit Images Provide at least one high-resolution image (300 dpi or greater) for publication and thumbnail use.

What to Avoid

No Promotional Content Promotional articles are not accepted through EPM. Advertising and sponsored content is available through AACTE’s Advertising Opportunities.

Do Not Use Contractions EPM articles follow a professional editorial standard. Contractions should not be used in submitted content.

Do Not Submit Unpolished Drafts While AACTE edits all articles, submissions should be proofread and ready for editorial review prior to submission.
