Lunch and Learn #3: Leveraging AI for Rubric Design

Rubrics are widely used in education to improve the consistency and transparency of grading. Well-designed rubrics communicate expectations, facilitate self-evaluation, and help streamline grading. However, creating a detailed and concise rubric can be time-consuming. This Lunch and Learn session will examine how to utilize AI to efficiently develop robust rubrics. We will also explore an AI-powered rubric builder.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to

  • Describe how AI can be used to generate rubrics.
  • Recognize the potential benefits and challenges of using AI for rubric development.
  • Design a rubric using AI.

Bobley serves as chair of alternative Certification Programs and University Partnerships in the Graduate School of Education at Touro University, New York. Prior to transitioning into higher education, she was a middle and high school science teacher. Her career at Touro began as a faculty member, but her proficiency with instructional technology led to her appointment to the position of director of GSE (Graduate School of Education) Online Education. She is passionate about ensuring that all teachers have the skills, competencies, and knowledge they need to impact student learningHer research interests include teacher education, distance education, faculty development, and leadership. Bobley is also a member of the AACTE Committee on Innovation and Technology.
