AACTE Presents Richard Schwab With Award For Distinguished Research In Teacher Education

Chicago, IL (February 6, 2009) The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) has selected Richard Schwab of the University of Connecticut to receive the 2009 Margaret B. Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research in Teacher Education. The award will be presented on Sunday, February 8, at the Speaker Spotlight Luncheon at the Association’s 61st Annual Meeting and Exhibits in Chicago, Illinois.

The Lindsey Award recognizes an individual whose research over the last decade has made a major impact on the field of teacher education.

For the past 11 years, Schwab’s research has focused on effective teacher and administrator education reform. He has published on issues related to teacher education, educational technology, and occupational stress and health in educational organizations. Recently, he collaborated with his faculty on a book, Portrait of a Profession: Teaching and Teachers in the 21st Century, for which he served as coeditor. He has supported the establishment of numerous research centers and institutions including two funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Schwab has provided a strong presence for the Neag School of Education and educational reform initiatives at the state, regional, national, and international levels.
