Notice to Members: Fourth Circuit Decision in AACTE, NCTR and MACTE v. McMahon

April 10, 2025
Press Releases & Statements

On April 10, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay on the preliminary injunction issued on March 17 in the case filed by AACTE, MACTE, and NCTR regarding the termination of teacher preparation grants. The court offered no rationale for its decision, but it did reference the Supreme Court ruling that was issued last Friday.

This decision means that the temporary restraining order is lifted, and the government is no longer required to provide the funding that grantees were awarded.

Over the coming days, AACTE, NCTR, and MACTE will evaluate further options with our legal team, and we will keep members updated on our plans. Regardless, we will continue to advocate in Congress for continued funding for TQP, SEED, TSL, and all the programs that support high-quality educator preparation.

Our organizations remain resolute in support of our members, your work, and the broader field of educator preparation because every child, everywhere, deserves the life-changing experience of excellent teaching.
