(December 1, 2016, Washington, DC) – Sharon Robinson, President and CEO of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), issued the following statement regarding President-Elect Donald J. Trump’s selection of Betsy DeVos to serve as U.S. Secretary of Education:

“AACTE congratulates Betsy DeVos on her nomination. On behalf of the nation’s educator preparation programs, we stand ready to collaborate with her to improve education for every student in America.

“AACTE champions educator preparation that produces an effective, diverse corps of professionals ready to serve all students. Federal policies and programs can support this priority by enabling educator preparation providers to engage in continuous improvement, pursue consistent and rigorous professional standards, and partner with local schools on problems of practice. Conversely, policies must not stifle innovation or hamper efforts to strengthen and diversify the educator pipeline.”
