2015 Washington Week

AACTE's Washington Week is held each June in the nation's capital and features three key events: Day on the Hill, the State Leaders Institute, and the Holmes Scholars Summer Policy Institute. For 2015, we will also offer a special conference (free of charge!) on closing the STEM achievement gap.

    • STEM Conference, June 9 – Join a multidisciplinary group of education researchers and practitioners from around the world at this special event sponsored by the National Science Foundation: “Progress and Factors That Contribute to Closing the STEM Achievement Gap.” The event will feature a cross-national analysis of STEM teacher qualifications and achievement gaps; discussions will explore collaboration with colleges of engineering and other disciplines and strategies to strengthen STEM literacy for the broader teaching workforce. Registration is complimentary, but space is limited!

    • State Leaders Institute, June 9-10, 2015– Offered to current leaders of AACTE's state chapters, this program is the forum to discuss important trends in state policies related to educator preparation. Attendees interact with other leaders from across the United States, learning strategies and collaborating to increase their state chapters' capacity and advocate for the profession.

    • Holmes Scholars Summer Policy Institute, June 9-11, 2015 – Created for current AACTE Holmes Scholars®, this experience allows attendees insider experiences in the world of education policy. Students in attendance will learn about the implications of current policy on research and programming that focus on minority populations. Registration for this institute includes participation in Day on the Hill.

    • Day on the Hill, June 10-11, 2015 – The signature component of Washington Week, Day on the Hill provides AACTE members an opportunity to meet with their representatives as well as the latest information on education policy from Capitol Hill. The event includes training and resources for members to conduct meetings with congressional offices, where they can showcase their successful programs and advocate for relevant legislation or funding.
