2025 DATA UPDATE: Teacher Preparation Program Trends

This issue brief updates information presented in previous AACTE publications, including Colleges of Education: A National Portrait (Second Edition) and issue briefs on alternative preparation programs offered by institutions of higher education (IHEs) and other organizations (non-IHEs). This data update reports on information collected over 10 years through the U.S. Department of Education’s Title II data series on programs that prepare candidates for initial teacher licensure.

How to Use this Report

This report can be read as a straightforward summary of important trends in higher education, but AACTE also hopes that members will use this report to advance their understanding of — and communication about — their unique programs.

Members can:

• Situate their programs within the larger field of educator preparation.
• Benchmark their enrollment, completion, and student body trends against national data.
• Provide institutional leaders, alumni, K-12 partners, and other interested colleagues with a national context for understanding their program’s unique trajectory.
