AACTE Receives Support from the Longview Foundation to Create a Global Education Faculty Professional Learning Community
(January 26, 2023, Washington, D.C.) – Through the generous support of the Longview Foundation, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) is launching a new Global Education Faculty Professional Learning Community (PLC). This PLC will provide a peer support network and professional development to faculty at comprehensive teacher preparation programs to effectively integrate global teaching competencies within their curriculum and practices.
A long-time supporter of AACTE, Longview Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Manise reflects on why the foundation has invested in AACTE since 1967: “The Longview Foundation made a grant to AACTE in its inaugural year to bring global perspectives to teacher education programs. In 2023, Longview awarded our 18th grant to AACTE. Together, we will support faculty development and innovative programming to prepare new educators and their students to be globally ready.”
The AACTE Global Education Faculty PLC will address the gaps in faculty professional development that limit the integration of global perspectives and internalization within teacher education programs. Faculty will gain the skills necessary to prepare globally competent teachers through virtual workshops, seminars, access to digital resources, and collaboration across institutions.
The PLC participants will be selected through an application process which will be available on the AACTE website starting on Feb. 6 through March 3. The PLC programming publicly debuts at AACTE’s 75th Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, where AACTE’s Global Diversity Programmatic Advisory Committee and the Internationalization of Teacher Education Topical Action Group members will host the first professional learning session, “Engaging in a Global Education Dialogue,” on Saturday, Feb. 25, followed by an evening reception. Interested faculty are encouraged to register for AACTE’s 75th Annual Meeting.
“We are grateful for Longview’s commitment to ensuring that all educators are prepared to teach all learners. Preparing students who are ready to compete in a global society starts with the preparation of educators. We look forward to our continued partnership with Longview to integrate global perspectives in the teacher education profession,” says Weadé James, AACTE’s vice president of organizational advancement.
