The Nation’s Teacher Educators to Convene in Atlanta at the AACTE 2020 Annual Meeting

Teacher educators from across the nation will engage in thought-provoking discussions about today’s most pressing challenges, including how to prepare high-quality educators, infuse equity and inclusivity into preparation and practice and establish a sustainable and diverse profession.

WHO: 
The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), the leading voice on educator preparation, will host its 72nd Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Ga., February 28 – March 1. This year’s event will bring together education leaders to engage in meaningful discussions, share research and practices, and become better equipped to drive change in the educator preparation field. Themed “Disrupting Inequities: Educating for Change,” the conference will feature four strands:

  • Equity and Inclusivity in Preparation and Practice
  • Activism and Innovation for Transforming Democracy
  • Establishing a Sustainable and Diverse Profession
  • Clinical Practice and Community Engagement

During the three days of programming led by top educational leaders, participants will choose from over 300 concurrent sessions and presentations to gain new strategies in preparing future educators.

Featured Speakers:

  • Robin DiAngelo, New York Times Bestselling Author, Affiliate Associate Professor of Education at the University of Washington (Opening Keynote Session)
  • Rodney Robinson, 2019 National Teacher of the Year (Closing Keynote Session)

WHAT: 
Leading education experts will present on topics such as social justice, equity and diversity in teaching, advancing innovations in teacher preparation, building the teacher pipeline and developing partnerships between higher education and PK-12 schools in the following six Deeper Dive Sessions:

  • Addressing the Teacher Shortage; What Do We Know and What Can We Do?
  • Disruptive Deans
  • Combatting Discrimination and Hatred Through Education
  • Transforming the Education Workforce: Learning Teams for a Learning Generation
  • School Safety Matters: Understanding the Preventative and Responsive Trends in School and Campus Safety Measures
  • Exploring the Opportunities and Challenges of Immigration for Teachers and Teacher Education Programs

In addition, the 2020 AACTE Award winners will also be honored for their excellence and significant contributions to the field of educator preparation.

Six interactive preconference workshops will take place on February 27. The AACTE 72nd Annual Meeting will be held February 28 – March 1, 2020.
