BIO:

Karen Betz is an Assistant Professor of Literacy and Director of Reading Science Programs at Marian University, where she coordinates the M.S. in Reading Science degree. She received her Doctor of Education degree with a concentration in Reading Science from Mount. St. Joseph University. She received a Gifted endorsement, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, a B.S. in Elementary Education, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati. She is a former elementary teacher, gifted interventionist, and school and district literacy coach. She supports schools in their journey to learn more about the vast body of knowledge called the science of reading as a consultant in her business, KB Literacy Consulting. She is also an OG trainer for the M.A. Rooney Foundation. She is a trainer in the Higher Education Community of Practice with The Literacy Architects, where she fuels her passion for ensuring literacy faculty feel supported and equipped to teach pre-service teachers the vast body of research known as the Science of Reading.
