The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) today released the latest of its critiques of university-based teacher preparation. Training Our Future Teachers: Classroom Management follows the template we have come to expect from NCTQ, using document reviews of a small sample of programs to support the broad claim that teacher preparation is not getting the job done.
AACTE and President/CEO Sharon Robinson commented on the report - citing concerns mirrored in past NCTQ reports, along with a few new issues - in this official statement.
Today the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released results from the 2012 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), a worldwide study of 15-year-old students' performance on mathematics, science and reading. American students' performance remained largely unchanged from the previous PISA that was administered in 2009, with the U.S. scoring below the OECD average in math and close to the OECD average in science and reading.
