| - Day on the Hill
-
June 19-20, 2013 Washington, D.C.
Day on the Hill begins at 1:00 p.m. on June 19 and concludes at 5:00 p.m. on June 20.
Day on the Hill is AACTE's premiere advocacy event. Deans and faculty from across the country gather in Washington, D.C. to meet with their Members of Congress and to get an "inside the beltway" look at federal education policy. This is an opportunity for AACTE members to showcase their programs with their representatives in Congress, to advocate for increased funding for federal programs that support educator preparation activities, and to advocate for stronger educator preparation policies in federal legislation. We strongly encourage members to bring a team to Day on the Hill that includes your partner principals, star graduates, exemplary teacher candidates, etc. Day on the Hill participants will be expected to set up their own Hill visits prior to arriving in D.C. AACTE will provide extensive preparation online and onsite to assist members in setting up their Congressional visits and to prepare for them. Registration is open only to AACTE members.

Come join other state leaders to discuss state policy trends and learn strategies to organize your chapter to advocate for the educator preparation profession. The State Leaders Institute is a professional development meeting for the Advisory Council of State Representatives (ACSR), AACTE's state chapter presidents and their leadership teams. Serving as the annual platform for the chapters to discuss and share information regarding state policy developments and education trends, the Institute provides current information on professional and policy issues within the field of educator preparation, the opportunity to network with other chapter leaders and share chapter development ideas. All AACTE member state chapter leaders are encouraged to attend. This year's program will focus on policy trends across the country that affect the profession and will include new concurrent sessions focused on advocacy, media communication, and strategic planning.

June 17-21, 2013 Washington, D.C.
AACTE will be offering a special summer policy institute for Holmes Scholars June 17-21, 2013, in Washington, D.C. The institute will focus on current policy issues affecting educator preparation, and will be an integral part of the AACTE leadership and advocacy activities scheduled for AACTE's 2013 Washington Week.
The theme for this year’s Holmes Scholars Policy Institute is “Diversifying the profession in academia and beyond: A look at the inner workings and opportunities in the education and research policy world.” The goals are to familiarize Scholars with the most pressing issues currently impacting educator preparation at the federal level, enhance advocacy skills and share first-hand knowledge of the work of several DC-based education and research organizations. These also include the federal government and programs with focus on minority populations.
