This semester, the University of West Florida is starting a Teachers Teaching Teachers program, the first of its kind in Florida.
The program partners the Santa Rosa County School District and the UWF School of Education in designing and implementing pre-service teacher training programs.
Participants complete the district's initial teacher training while they are still in school, rather than after graduation.
"This will allow students to move easily and directly into instructional positions with the district," said Bill Evans, director of the UWF School of Education. "This melding of expertise will produce a pre-service teacher who is well trained and fully inducted into the policies and procedures of the (school district)."
The district will hire some of the students who complete the program.
This project will serve all grade levels, including middle and secondary school pre-service teachers, as well as elementary and special education pre-service teachers.
