Teacher Quality in the Federal Spotlight: Implications of the Newly Enacted Higher Education Opportunity Act

Free Webinar - September 29, 2008 (1:30 pm - 3:00 pm EST)

Sharon Robinson Jane West Mary Harrill-McClellan

On July 31, the US House of Representatives and the US Senate finally passed the long awaited reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. The new law, called the Higher Education Opportunity Act, is a comprehensive reauthorization that has been five years in the making. It includes extensive new provisions related to teacher education -- including accountability provisions, data collection provisions and programmatic provisions. The law amends the recently enacted TEACH grants, as well. Several new programs were created that will be of keen interest to teacher educators.

Who should participate:
Deans of schools of education and faculty - particularly those in shortage areas ( math, science, special education and ELL) will not want to miss this webinar. If you have classes in education policy or graduate seminars, you may want to have the entire class participate in the webinar. This webinar is an AACTE member benefit and there is no charge for AACTE members, faculty and students at AACTE member institutions.

Register now and hear from the insiders who were intimately involved in working with Congress to craft this legislation: Sharon P. Robinson, President and CEO; Jane E. West, VP for Government and External Relations and Mary Harrill McClellan, Director of Government Relations.

AACTE web seminars allow participants to hear from and interact with the leading voices in teacher education without spending time or money traveling. Focusing on the field's most pressing issues, these web seminars provide timely dialogues on topics of interest.

How do they work?
Participants listen to the presentation by phone while watching the presenter's PowerPoint presentation on the internet. Time for questions and answers is included and participants can submit questions via the internet. A live online chat follows the webinar.
