Committee on Global Diversity

Charge: To foster the development of quality teaching and professional education practices that promote diversity, equity, and global perspectives that advance the preparation of world-class educators responsive to all learners. The Committee should endeavor to strengthen professional education programs and capacity by providing expertise and leadership resulting in the creation, promotion, and/or dissemination of deliverables via AACTE or other approved venues.

Committee on Government Relations and Advocacy

Charge: To provide governmental relations leadership for the AACTE and professional education. The Committee should analyze policies of other AACTE task forces and committees for legislative implications, review recommendations of state, national and/or regional governmental and non-governmental agencies, and develop appropriate strategies to assure legislation and regulations favorable to SCDEs. Additionally, the committee should facilitate the implementation of Association policy on governmental relations issues.

Committee on Innovation and Technology

Charge: To develop the Association's classroom reform and technology agendas as it relates to K-12 and postsecondary education. The Committee should promote the use of innovative strategies and technological interventions in schools and professional education preparation contexts through gathering information about resources and uses, providing leadership related to professional preparation, facilitating communication and interaction about innovations in learning and technology among faculty in SCDEs, through the dissemination of proven methods and processes in professional education.

Committee on Meetings and Professional Development

Charge: To recommend professional development and technical assistance activities to strengthen member programs and build their capacity to prepare educators who can teach every child effectively. In order to fulfill this charge, the committee will:

  • Assist in assessing the professional development and technical assistance needs of the membership
  • Identify themes and strands for the Annual Meeting, draft the Call for Proposals, and coordinate the proposal solicitation process
  • Verify the review process and ensure all reviews are completed
  • Recommend speakers for general sessions, major forums, and pre-conference workshops
  • Advise on topics and faculty for the New Deans Institute and the Leadership Institute for Department Chairs
  • Advise on new formats for delivery of professional development and technical assistance

Committee on Membership Development and Capacity Building

The Committee is charged with designing the systematic member recruitment and retention plan, including the identification of organizational capabilities required to support such a plan. Further, the plan should provide input regarding performance metrics that will guide evaluation of the strategic and operational impact of the plan.
Committee work includes, but is not limited to the activities named below:

  • Participation in the design and implementation of member recruitment and retention initiatives, including the identification of timely teacher education issues and programs and services that can best meet the needs of the teacher education community.
  • Developing member feedback and evaluation methods to determine what programs and services should be developed and enhanced in response to the most recent member and prospective member research results.
  • Participation in development and evaluation of communication and marketing plans for existing and new programs and services to members and prospective members.
  • Assisting AACTE staff in developing prospective member partnership initiatives with AACTE state chapters and member institutions leading to membership for the prospective institutions.

Committee on Professional Preparation and Accountability

Charge: To provide leadership in the development of professional consensus on standards, assessment and practice in teacher preparation. The Committee should oversee the design and implementation of technical assistance related to professional standards and practice. Attention should be given to initiatives that support and strengthen linkages between the professional standards for educators, professional education preparation programs, and student learning. Additionally, the Committee should advocate for the state and place accreditation, licensure, certification, and program approval in strengthening both the field and profession of education.

Committee on Research and Dissemination

Charge: To develop the Association's research agenda in order to assist the membership in reaching evidence-based professional consensus regarding professional education in five areas: standards, curriculum, assessment, accountability, and membership in the profession. The Committee will also consider effective vehicles and strategies for disseminating research findings as those findings inform the consensus discussion and contribute to the capacity building of the field and member institutions. Additionally, the Committee will serve as members of the editorial board for the Journal of Teacher Education.
