Preparing School Leaders

With more than 300 sessions to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide which to attend at AACTE’s Annual Meeting. Examine the shifts in expectations for new principals and the implications for preparation programs; hear about innovative practices in recruiting, selecting, and preparing principal candidates; and learn new ways of measuring the effectiveness of principal candidates and their preparation programs. School districts have demanding expectations for principals, who are working in an ever-changing environment. Overseeing the implementation of Common Core, executing new teacher evaluation systems, and leading schools that are becoming more diverse is challenging. Panelists will explore promising developments in principal preparation that are resulting in high-quality new school leaders and will discuss the programmatic challenges that remain.

Assessing Principal Candidate Quality
