Major Forums to Sharpen Our Vision

Each week, the date for AACTE’s 65th Annual Meeting draws closer. And each week, more details about the agenda are fine-tuned and announced. Can you feel the growing excitement in the air?

You can add two more Major Forums to the list of educational opportunities that will make this conference the must-attend professional event of 2013. Scheduled on consecutive days, these next sessions were developed as a complementary pair to stimulate thought and generate discussion about the future direction of educator preparation.

Teacher Preparation Reform: The Politics of Reforming Educator Preparation

What role should federal policy play in transforming educator preparation? Panelists will discuss and debate current proposals from Congress and the Obama administration, put forward their own recommendations, and consider the politics driving educator preparation reform.

Presenters: Ron Marx, University of Arizona; Ben Riley, New Schools Venture Fund; Fayneese Miller, University of Vermont; David Steiner, Hunter College of City University of New York

Teacher Preparation Reform: Reports From National Organizations

Panelists will consider various reports on teacher preparation released over the past year by national education organizations with a stake in effective preparation.

Presenters: Maddie Fennell, NEA Commission on Effective Teachers and Teaching; Theresa Hopkins-Staten, Connecticut State Board of Education; Tom Luna, Idaho State Department of Education. Moderator: Angela Sewall, University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

What’s your vision for the future of education preparation? Are you prepared to embrace what the future holds? You can do even more – you can help influence that future when you join your colleagues in Orlando, Fla., February 28-March 2, 2013.
